  • If using the controller to turn on the machine you can turn on the PS3 using the PS button then hold down the TRIANGLE button untill the XMB comes up.
  • You can also create a second PS3 User ( Not a PlayStation Network User ). Once this is done the PS3 will boot to screen asking you to select the user to login as.

[edit] MotorStorm Demo and DolbyDigital 5.1

It seems that PS3 firmware 1.32 introduced a bug that manifests itself in the MotorStorm downloadable demo by disabling Dolby Digital 5.1 sound if the PS3 XMB has 1080P or 1080i Video Modes enabled. If you are not getting Dolby Digital 5.1 sound when playing the demo, try going to Settings->Video and making sure that only the 720P and 480P modes are enabled. Then run the demo, 5.1 sound should be back.
Hopefully this is on Sony's to fix list for the next firmware update.
This issue has been resolved as of Firmware 1.5
